Dr. Cowley’s laboratory is interested in understanding mucosal immune responses to intracellular pathogens, with an eye towards aiding in the development of mucosal vaccines and adjuvants. In particular, a major recent focus of her lab has been the use of Francisella tularensis as a model intracellular pathogen to define the in vivo role of MAIT cells in pulmonary immune responses.
